Oumou Mauritania / Bogue

«Every morning I wake up with the call to prayer. I pray and, before going to school, I’m going to look for water at a well 10 or 12 minutes walk from home with a large drum on my head.

Sometimes, if there is not enough water in the well, you have to wait. When I wait, I often miss my first hour of class. When I see that I am going to be late I skip breakfast (a coffee and a piece of bread), because if we are late they won’t let us in until the next hour.

When I miss the class I have to make a lot of efforts to reach the rhythm of others. Water fetch has also brought me problems in the bronchi. Here we call asthma. It is due to the weight I carry with the drums ».
